Create and copy your Google API key
This guide ends when your API key has been created and copied.
Before you start

- A browser tab you can keep open beside this guide
Create and copy the key

Sign in to Google
Open the official page and sign in with the Google account you want to use. Account selection or terms may appear first.

Check the API Keys page
Google may already have created a default project and key.
If an existing key is visible, select Copy API key and use it immediately.
The API Keys page shows Create API key near the top. -

Select Create API key
Use Create API key only when there is no key you want to reuse.

Name the key and choose a project
Enter kkamagi as the name, choose the project that will own API usage, then select Create key.
The Create a new key dialog asks for a name and project. -

Copy the API key
In the new key row, select Copy API key. The key is issued and this guide is complete once it is on your clipboard.
The API key details panel shows Copy key at the bottom.
If you get stuck
A key is already visible
Do not create another key. Use Copy API key on the existing row.
Your project is missing
Select Import projects and check the Google Cloud project you want to use.
You cannot create a key
Use a personal project or ask the project administrator for permission to create API keys.
