Create and copy your OpenAI API key
This guide ends when your secret key has been created and copied.
Before you start
- An OpenAI Platform account
- A browser tab you can keep open beside this guide
Create and copy the key

Sign in to OpenAI Platform
Use your usual sign-in method. The available choices can vary by account.

Open Project API Keys
Keep Project API Keys selected. Do not use User API Keys · Legacy.
Keep Project API Keys selected, then find Create new secret key. -

Select Create new secret key
This opens the key settings dialog.

Limit the key to Realtime requests
Keep Owned by: You, enter kkamagi, and confirm the current project. Under Permissions, select Restricted, expand Model capabilities, set Realtime (/v1/realtime) to Request, and leave every other permission at None. Confirm that 1 selected permission is shown.
Select Restricted, then allow only Realtime requests under Model capabilities. -

Select Create secret key
This action creates the real secret key.

Copy before selecting Done
In Save your key, select Copy first. Select Done only after copying because the full secret will not be shown again.
Copy the secret before selecting Done.
If you get stuck
User API Keys · Legacy is selected
Switch back to Project API Keys.
The project is different
Check the project selector at the upper left before creating the key.
You closed Save your key
The full secret cannot be restored. Create a new key and copy it before closing the dialog.
